Offline web applications

Now deprecated method of defining web page files to be cached using a cache manifest file, allowing them to work offline on subsequent visits to the page.

Notes

This technology is being deprecated in favor of Service Workers

Bugs

• IE 10 does not properly handle the appcache FALLBACK section. It only handles subresources if they are already in the cache.

• Currently not supported in some versions of Chrome on Linux.

• Reportedly, Android 4.4 WebViews lose the cache after closing the app.

• Only Firefox (and Opera 12) supports the prefer-online option under SETTINGS
