HTMLAreaElement: toString() method

This feature is well established and works across many devices and browser versions. It’s been available across browsers since ⁨March 2017⁩.

The HTMLAreaElement.toString() stringifier method returns a string containing the whole URL. It is a read-only version of HTMLAreaElement.href.

Syntax

toString()

Parameters

None.

Return value

A string containing the element's complete URL.

Examples

Calling toString on an area element

// An <area id="myArea" href="/en-US/docs/HTMLAreaElement"> element is in the document
const area = document.getElementById("myArea");
area.toString(); // returns 'https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/HTMLAreaElement'
